General Information and tourist visa for Sri Lanka
 
Sri Lanka is very close to the Equator which means that temperatures remain fairly constant year round with monthly averages between 72 °F (22 °C) and 92 °F (33 °C) in the lowlands. In the Central Highlands, higher altitudes account for lower temperatures, with monthly averages between 44 °F (7 °C) and 71 °F (21.6 °C). Humidity is high everywhere throughout the island.
 
Capital City: Colombo. 
 
Official Language: Sinhala and Tamil, but many of the people speak English. All road signs are in all three languages.
 
With effect from 1st January 2012, all Tourist or Business travelers to Sri Lanka must have Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for entering in to Sri Lanka. Please visit https://www.eta.gov.lk for more information.
 
Visit visa – Tourist - At the arrival may be granted 30 days ETA with double entry facility an double entries can be made from the date of initial arrival (Within given 30 days). The balance period of the 30 days of the initial entry will be granted for the second visit to Sri Lanka.
 
How to submit an ETA application: By the applicant - By Travel agent/Tour Operator. 
 
Steps to be followed: Submit the application - Receive the acknowledgement- Receive ETA approval or a referral notice - If a referral notice is served, you may contact department of Immigration & Emigration for the necessary ETA.
 
All ETA holders should be able to prove:
  • A passport valid for not less than 6 months from the date of arrival.
  • A confirmed return ticket or a visa to the next country of destination.
  • Sufficient funds to meet the expenses during the stay.
  • Your visa must be utilized before the date of expiry noted on the visa.
  • Validity of your visa is subject to entry into Sri Lanka during the indicated entry period.
Fees and Payments - Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka. :  
  • Visitors from SAARC Countries    US$ 20.00 
  • Visitors from any other country US$ 50.00
You must make sure that the same travel document which was used for applying online visa is used for entering into Sri Lanka. In the event you produce a travel document other than the one used for applying online visa, you are required to pay again on arrival for the visa.
