Bentota: a mere 45 minutes away from Colombo is famous for its breathtaking scenery. The water is safe for swimming. If you want to participate in water sports, you will find windsurfing, speed boat and Jet Ski riding, boogie boarding, kite surfing, as well as enjoy a leisurely ride on a banana boat for family & kids. See how villagers tap coconut trees for their milky white sap. You can even taste a little, as it’s a boozy beverage used for Sri Lankan alcohol called coconut arrack. Bentota Beach spans 5 miles with all the facilities.  Visit a spa and salon, sit by the beach, relax, and sip some cocktails.
Hiriketiya is an exquisite bay neighboring the southern town of Dickwella which has risen in popularity over the last five years. There are waves for all grades of surfers including a more advanced reef break and a gentle, fun wave for beginners. Hiriketiya is a much smaller bay out of the main town so you have the beach to yourself, with no disruption, no noise, and no chaos and a range of healthy cafés and restaurants.
 
Dickwella beach:  is at the Southern coast of Sri Lanka, close to Hiriketiya beach. You can witness the sun setting in all its glory. The beach is home to a thriving reef that is teeming with diverse marine life, making it a perfect spot for Whale watching, diving and snorkeling. Since it is protected by reefs and rocks, one can enjoy a swim without fear. Dikwella town is a lively place. ‘Hummanaya’, the second largest blowhole in the world is also located there.
Arugambay is located on the southeast corner of the island which is one of the best surfing destinations in the world. It is close to Kumana, which is one of the best places for birdwatchers, and Lahugala, another destination to observe elephants in Sri Lanka. You can have a Lagoon Safari where many wildlife can be spotted. You will find plenty of hotels and restaurants on the beach serving delicious fresh seafood. Stroll in the village by renting a bicycle. High season in Arugambay runs from June until August and In February and March. Low season prices are about 5 times lower than in the high season.
 
Galle: The Galle Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was initially built by the Portuguese in the 16th century during their conquests. The fort was later fortified and conquered by the Dutch in the 17th century, until it fell to the might of the British. The old town of Galle was once used as a trading port for spices and other goods for over 200 years. However, today, the fort has been transformed into a place of history, romance, and beauty where travelers are warmly welcomed to dive headfirst into the exotic stories and be a part of this heritage site. Stroll along the ramparts and see the lighthouse. A walking tour in car-free streets takes you through the back roads of this iconic fort, visiting charming structures, museums, and old buildings that have many secrets about the Galle Fort. Negombo beach: is popular for tourists, offering a number of activities such as kite surfing, and sailing, windsurfing and jet skiing. Negombo is close to the airport (eight kilometers), and it is a popular place for tourists just after long flight or as the final destination, who want to relax by the beach before their return flight. Enjoy the lagoon crab and lobster during the season while learning about traditional fishing methods of Sri Lanka where one could take a ride in a sailing canoe with a fisherman. Enjoy watching the old-world fishing crafts like the outrigger canoes and the catamarans bring a variety of marine fish. The beach is lined with restaurants that boast fresh seafood straight from the ocean to your plate, as well as several little local stores that are often frequented by tourists looking to find souvenirs. Trincomalee: Located on the east coast of the island overlooking the natural Harbor with beautiful beaches of Nilaveli and Marble beach, ideal for scuba diving. There are nearly 20 dive sites in and around Trincomalee, there are different depths ranging from 6 - 30 meters while tourists can explore and enjoy reef dives, deep dives, wreck dives, or combined diving and snorkeling trips to the famed Pigeon Island. Trincomalee is also well known for Whale watching. The boat ride that takes you about 6 - 8 nautical miles away from the coast and brings you to a spot where you can spot magnificent blue whales, sperm and humpback whales along with pods of spinner and bottlenose dolphins swimming and playing around. With private excursions and safety gear available, these tours are ideal between November to March.
